Riding high on its ability to amalgamate a gourmet of flavours from various galleries, ‘Art Bengaluru 2014’ at UB City showcased an exciting collection of artworks from distinguished galleries of national and international repute, such as Nature Morte (New Delhi), Klein Sun Gallery (New York), Art Houz Gallery (Chennai), Sublime Galleria (Bengaluru) and Latitude 28 Gallery (New Delhi), to name a few. The Collection at UB City came alive with close to 70 artworks by artists such as C. Douglas, Pradeep Putthoor, Martand Khosla, Dilip Sharma, Josh P. S., Jaykumar G., A.V. Illango, Athiveera Pandian, Vijay Pichumani, Asma Menon and Mohan Vijaya Raghavan,a along with a video art project, showcasing the practices of innovative video artists from diverse countries such as Argentina, Brazil, Russia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Turkey and India, by Latitude 28 Gallery.
With ‘Renaissance’ as the theme for this year’s festival, the opening night unveiled the installation of celebrated artist and Chief Guest, Bose Krishnamachari. Titled ‘No-Thing/ Nothing’, prepared exclusively for the event, it seeks to build on the extremities and subtleties that are prevalent in one’s life. Another highlight of the evening was the first live performance in India by eminent artist Liu Bolin from Shanghai, giving the festival an inimitable edge. Noted art patrons, celebrities and socialites from Bengaluru and Chennai graced the occasion. Peter Nagy, director of Nature Morte, Bhavana Kakar, director of Latitude 28 and editor of Take on Art, Vincent Adaikalraj, Publisher of Arts Illustrated and COO of Art Houz Gallery, were among those present.
“In the last five years since its inception, we have attempted to bring together galleries and artists from across India and abroad under one roof and I am very happy to say that this year we have truly succeeded in having a distinctive mix of galleries. Another unique factor of this festival is that we don’t relegate the art to a gallery but instead showcase it throughout The Collection at UB City, thus promoting art awareness among all visiting this landmark destination,” said Uzma Irfan, organiser of Art Bengaluru, Executive Director, Corporate Communications of the Prestige Group, and Founder of Sublime Galleria.
With each subsequent year, Art Bengaluru has managed to create a niche for itself among art patrons, deservedly making it a much-awaited and notable art fest in the country.
